Police: 2 officers assaulted

A Keene man faces two charges of simple assault after he called police to report he had been punched in the face and then proceeded to assault two officers, according to police.

Brett A. Malcolm, 28, called police from a Keene bar at about 12:45 Saturday morning, but when officers arrived he had already left, according to Keene police Lt. Todd B. Lawrence.

The officers then responded to a disturbance in Railroad Square and determined that Malcolm was causing the disturbance, Lawrence said.

Officer Daniel J. Hurley intervened to stop Malcolm from rushing at a group of people and Malcolm assaulted Hurley, Lawrence said.

Malcolm was arrested. He asked to be taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained before the police arrived, Lawrence said, and while at the hospital Malcolm assaulted another officer, Kyle L. Macie.

Neither officer was injured, Lawrence said. Malcolm is being held at the Cheshire County Jail and will be arraigned on Monday.
